July 15-19, 2008, University of Nevada, Las Vegas: Suddenly it’s 1950-- and Not a Moment Too Soon

What Happens Here Stays With You

The 1950's brought incredible ferment in counseling. Carl Rogers’ theory of healing relationship, dramatically changed our focus from patients and ids tpeople and caring. Isn’t that what drew you to mental health? What sustained you? It certainly wasn’t the money. Remember the first time someone changed because of your relationship? And perhaps you did as well.  You wondered whether you should be paid or whether you should pay for the privilege.

Then came managed care, empirically supported "treatments," treatment planning, and other craziness that took away the joy and diverted from what was right.

Of course Rogers was right. Both you and your clients knew it even if neither or you knew who he was. He revolutionized mental health with his writings about it and his research. He showed scientifically its importance. Most importantly, he provided a set of tools and values for the practitioner to maximize its healing effect.

Come back to where it started; refocus and refresh yourself. The Annual Conference of The Association for the Development of the Person-Centered Approach  will be at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, July 15-19, 2008.
